For directions to the rastro, see the map at the bottom of this page
Every Saturday, as the sun casts its embrace over Jalón, a charming town nestled in the Costa Blanca, a magical transformation occurs. The riverside comes alive, vibrant with colors, antiques, and an unmistakable spirit of community. This is the rastro market, a delightful flea market that beckons locals and tourists alike from 09:00 until 14:00. It’s as if the town breathes new life every weekend, welcoming visitors to explore its treasures.
Walking through the rastro, you’ll be reminded of an old attic filled with memories waiting to be rediscovered. Antique pieces, curious finds, and bric-a-brac create a tapestry of history. These aren’t just items for sale; they’re stories longing to be told. Stalls brim with everything from vintage trinkets to delightful tourist souvenirs, and the air is scented with the offerings of surrounding restaurants and cafes.
What makes this rastro market stand out? It’s not just the unique items on display; it’s the quality. In the heart of the Jalón Valley, this market is renowned for offering rare-to-obsolete pieces that you will liklely not find anywhere else, elevating it above an ordinary flea market. And just a stone’s throw away, the farmer’s market—or mercat de la terra—comes alive, bursting with local craftwork, fresh produce, and culinary treasures sourced from the surrounding landscape. It’s like a farmers’ market combined with an art gallery, each stall telling its own story through vibrant colors and rich aromas.
At the roundabout by the Masymas supermarket, the farmer’s market draws in crowds, making it a perfect complement to the rastro experience. This local charm isn’t just a feast for the eyes; it supports the community, showcasing the best of what Jalón has to offer.
The Surrounding Delights of Jalón
You can wander the lively streets of Jalon and enjoy the charm of local bars, bodegas, and quaint shops. Each corner offers a new experience, delicious local flavors, and friendly faces. Directly across from the rastro sits Bodegas Xaló, the village’s largest wine producer. Here, you’ll find more than just wine; it’s a treasure trove of local products: rich olive oil, sweet almonds, and the beloved sausages known as embutidos.
Directly across from the rastro, you’ll encounter Casa Aleluya, a restaurant and bar famous for its charismatic owner and lively atmosphere. With live music echoing through the air and a menu bursting with flavors, it’s hard not to lose track of time here. Next door, Casa Claudia invites you in with its tempting tapas, each dish a tribute to Spanish culinary traditions.
And for those with a sweet tooth, don’t miss L’Abella, the honey shop that captures a bit of local magic in each jar. From pure local honey to delightful derivatives, it’s a sweetness that embodies the essence of Jalón’s bountiful offerings.
